About the artists…

Stephanie Ries

Stephanie Ries is both a neuroscientist and a visual artist, whose dual practice bridges the precision of science with the expressive depth of painting. She holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience and serves as a university professor and lab director, where her research explores the complexities of the human brain.

Her paintings, often focused on architecture, light, and human presence, reflect a fascination with perception, memory, and the way spaces shape lived experience. Drawing on her scientific background, Stephanie’s art invites viewers to consider the interplay between external environments and internal states of mind.

Working primarily in oil on canvas, she captures quiet, contemplative moments—figures in arches, shadows across tiled courtyards, or the contrast of stillness and movement within structured forms. Each piece suggests both observation and introspection, resonating with her broader interest in how humans perceive and inhabit the world.

Stephanie’s work reflects her belief that science and art are not opposites but complementary ways of asking questions—one through data, the other through image. Her practice seeks to dissolve boundaries between analytical thought and creative exploration, offering a multidimensional perspective on what it means to be human.
